Facts, Gaslighting, and Deception at the First Debate, "Demystifying the Governor's Council", Boston Forum, House Parties, More Zooms, Happy Mother's Day, and the Northern Lights!
Sometimes you just have to laugh, even when the reality is incredibly serious. The first debate of the campaign covered many of the issues I’ve been speaking out on, and my opponent’s answers ranged from incorrect to outright intentional falsehoods, an inexcusable rejection of medical and social science, her claim that I'm not actually a public defender (I am), and gaslighting in a pathetic attempt to convince voters that the Governor’s Council has nothing to do with protecting abortion rights. It’s hard to come up with the most alarming of her comments, but I must say it was particularly stunning to hear her claim fake endorsements again. She falsely claimed that three of her prior opponents have endorsed her, and when I said that couldn’t possibly be true and asked her to name them, she replied that she couldn’t because she didn’t have the slip of paper she had written them on. It’s so ludicrous you just have to laugh, but it really isn’t funny. Watch HERE for the full debate. Enough!
She of course continued to make false accusations about me, so I pointed out that every time she has an opponent, she does that. But no one was ever hit with a lower blow than Charlie Shapiro. A letter ran in MetroWest Daily News right before the primary falsely accusing him of showing up at a hearing of the Governor’s Council, distributing campaign literature, and slandering her to State House interns. Read HERE. Charlie Shapiro would never have done any of that. To make it even worse, the letter was purportedly signed by other Governor’s Councillors. She took that letter, printed it on campaign letterhead, with “Paid for by the Devaney Committee to Re-elect” at the bottom, right above the union bug. That’s the only part of that letter that was true. The rest of it, the allegations and the signatures of other Governor’s Councillors, was completely false. She not only made appalling false allegations, she also signed the names of other Governor’s Councillors and distributed it as campaign literature. That is a level of deception that tells you everything you need to know about her character, and why she absolutely must not continue to serve as our Governor’s Councillor. Thanks to The Young Jurks for posting this clip of the exchange, including her new fake endorsements. Make a contribution today, so we can make sure to reach as many voters as we can and put an end to all of this.
Boston voters are paying attention! I am very proud to have the endorsement of Boston City Councilor Liz Breadon, who represents Allston-Brighton. Across town in Wards 4 and 5, they’re hosting a Governor’s Council forum on June 4, 2024. Register HERE.
Another great way to help is to make sure that first debate is seen throughout the district. Contact your local cable station, and ask them to show it. The forum is available on a shared server for all local cable stations to upload. With your request, this must see debate will air in Boston, Cambridge, Newton, and on every local cable station in the district. You can find a list of all local access stations HERE. Look for your town, and ask your local station to show the Woburn Public Media Center Governor’s Council forum, and let me know so I can help notify folks in your town.
No lawn? No problem! Window signs are here, and already spotted in Allston! Let me know if you'd like to put one up too.

The Old North Bridge in Concord, site of the shot heard ‘round the world, was the perfect local spot to view the northern lights. It was exquisite just as it was, under the light of the moon and the stars. But then the sky began to shimmer, and it was so beautiful we alternated between joyous shouts and pointing to complete silence as we watched in awe and astonishment. There is so much beauty in the world, and more good people than we know. Thanks to all of you incredibly good people for letting me get to know you. Because of you, we are winning. With your support, we will finish the job. Hope to see you soon, and wishing everyone a happy Mother's Day!
Take Care,
Mara
