Patriot’s Day Purpose, Stunning Momentum, What Voters Need to Know, Videos, and On the Ballot Soon!
On this Patriot’s Day, our thoughts naturally turn to the values that founded this country: the right to self-governance, a government by and for the people, and freedom from tyranny. The foundation of those rights made it possible for the United States Supreme Court to establish a right to counsel for defendants who cannot afford to hire one. As a public defender, my clients are among our most vulnerable, and therefore most impacted by the consequential decisions of our Governor’s Councillor. Our courts must reflect our values, and that’s why we need change on the Governor’s Council. I recently joined the Young Democrats of Massachusetts to speak at their convention. They get it, and they give me so much hope and confidence in our future.
There is no comparing where this campaign is today with where we were two years ago. The momentum really is stunning. Every city and town in this district has a strong network of support, with house parties, Zoom meet and greets, writing postcards to their communities, and contributions. Underlying that is all the endorsements I am so proud and grateful to have. I can’t recall another Democratic primary challenger with so many endorsements. The State Auditor, one U.S. Representative, four State Senators, 12 State Representatives, five Democratic Town Committees and local activist groups, nine Newton City Councilors, three labor unions (with more to be announced soon), one Danielle Allen, and one Larry Tribe. Why so many endorsements? The answer is simple. They know me. They know the work that needs to be done. And they trust me to deliver.
One of those endorsers is Brookline State Rep. Tommy Vitolo. I recently spoke at his wonderful Spring Social, with two minutes to explain why this race is so important. Watch HERE on my YouTube channel.
We have two main educational tasks in this campaign: (1) what my 17 years of experience working as a public defender in our Juvenile, District, and Superior Courts will bring to the Governor’s Council; and (2) the record of my opponent. One you know those two things, the choice is inarguable. I’m working hard to educate voters, and with your help every voter in District 3 will know.
You need only to look at the state judges in Arizona and Alabama who, in post-Roe America, have imposed dangerous and tyrannical restrictions on reproductive choice, even banning IVF. That tells you all you need to know about why it is completely unacceptable to have a Governor’s Councillor like ours who voted to confirm an anti-choice judge.
It is also completely unacceptable to have a Governor’s Councillor who lies to voters. She has lied about endorsements from high-ranking Democratic elected officials and other leading, beloved, and well-respected Democrats. She has also lied about every opponent she has ever had. I’m just the latest. There is a clear, long-term pattern of deceit to manipulate the outcome of the election. Lying to voters is damaging to our democracy and must not be tolerated. I spoke about her record at my recent Lexington fundraiser. Watch HERE on my YouTube channel.
How has someone like this been a Constitutional officer for 25 years? It’s simple. Not enough people know. But with your support, we will make sure every voter in this district knows how much is at stake, and how very clear the choice is. With your support, volunteering, and contributions, we will elect the first public defender to the Governor’s Council.
Special thanks to Gary Yu, who invited me to speak as an honored guest at the extraordinary Sound of Spring Classical Opera Music Concert at Jordan Hall, featuring a Chinese orchestra, opera and dance, with extraordinary performers from all over the world. This campaign truly is a joy thanks to all of you!
Take Care,
