Reached Every Voter? Check. More Big Endorsements? Check. More Winnable Every Day? You Know It.
With just over a month until September 6th, the last day to cast your ballot to elect the first public defender to the Governor's Council, we are on a roll and having a blast!
We have already reached every voter with contact info in the district, from Boston to Burlington, out to Marlboro and back all the way to Brookline. Here I am at last night's canvas in Wellesley. Starting next week, our first digital ad will run! It's a big deal, and it's the best way to counter our real opponent in this race: ignorance. The last time there was a competitive primary for this seat, 22,000 voters got to the polls but didn't cast a vote for Governor's Council. All we have to do is make sure voters know about this campaign, and we will win.
Every day more people are signing up to get involved, helping to spread the word, and bringing us closer to real change on the Governor's Council, the kind only a public defender can bring. Julie Eastland just posted this excellent blog about this race on Medium: Why States Matter: A Little-Known, Big Deal Vote in the Bay State. She's right: this race is a very, very big deal.
In a time our federal courts are taking away our rights, we must make sure our state courts uphold them. A recent Suffolk poll found the top concern among MA voters is the Supreme Court and the erosion of our rights. That’s one of reasons people are paying attention to Governor’s Council like never before, and we have the endorsements to prove it.
I am incredibly proud to have so much support for people I think so highly of. State Auditor Suzanne Bump has always stood for excellence, and shown the difference high standards can make. I am incredibly honored to have earned her endorsement. "Mara Dolan will add a much-needed perspective to the Governor's Council," Bump said. "Not only is she a consummate legal professional, but her work as a public defender grounds her view of what the public should expect from its judicial appointees."
Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts is known for their high standards, demonstrating a deep commitment to supporting candidates who will be change agents for progress. I am very honored to have earned their “enthusiastic endorsement”. They wrote, “Mara’s election would bring progressive values and her demonstrated commitment to racial and criminal justice to the body that votes on all judicial nominees by the Governor, as well as commutations, pardons, and Parole Board appointments. As a public defender and experienced campaigner, Mara offers a rare and needed perspective on the Council.”
This campaign continues to gather momentum, but we still need your support. Please make a contribution to help us reach as many uninformed voters as possible. That is truly the simple key to victory.
People are still reeling with the news that my opponent voted to confirm an anti-choice judge to our Superior Courts. Governor's Councilor Eileen Duff will join us for a Lunchtime Conversation on Zoom to talk about exactly how that happened, and how we can make sure it never happens again. Click HERE to register to join us on Zoom on August 11th at noon.
A Zoom meet and greet is one of the easiest, most effective ways you can help us beat our toughest opponent: ignorance. All you need to do is a pick a time and let us know who you’d like to invite. It’s a great way to connect with your community and help spread the word! Just write to me at Mara@MaraDolan.com and we’ll get your party started.
Lawn signs are showing up everywhere! Write to me at Mara@MaraDolan.com if you’d like a lawn sign. We’re asking for a $10 donation to cover the cost.
The path to victory grows clearer every day. Your contribution can make all the difference. Please give generously, help us spread the word, and we will bring badly-needed change to the Governor’s Council, the kind only a public defender can bring.
Take Care,
Mara
