Race Still Undecided, Too Close to Call, We Flipped A Lot of Towns!

Good morning! As I write this, 11 hours after the polls closed, our race is still too close to call.

We flipped a lot of towns, and some by a lot, including: Acton, Arlington, Bedford, Harvard, Lexington, Maynard, Stow, Sudbury, Weston, and Watertown!!!

The towns where we are still awaiting results are: Billerica, Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Littleton, Southborough, and Woburn. What we do know of the results of my own town of Concord so far is that we are extremely strong, but not all precincts are in.

Yesterday was a great and wonderful day, as I traveled with my rock star campaign director Christina Knowles all over the district from Boston to Brookline and Waltham to Concord, before finishing the day in Burlington.

Here is the link to the Boston Globe’s election results for our race. Thanks to everyone who is following this race all the way through!

Congratulations to all our Democratic nominees, Democratic nominee for Governor Maura Healey, Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, Democratic nominee for Attorney General Andrea Campbell, and Democratic nominee for Auditor Diana DiZoglio!

I will write again as soon as we know for sure. It is truly too close to call. I can’t thank you enough for being a part of this and for helping this campaign go so very far! Last night GBH asked me for a statement about what these results mean. I said something like this:

Mara Dolan with campaign signs

It means that people understand that the Governor’s Council, which has long been overlooked, is the gateway to our judiciary, an entire branch of our government, and that our judiciary is not reflecting the will of the people. Just as the legislative and executive branches must reflect the will of the people, our judicial branch must too. The systemic racism and over-incarceration in Massachusetts does not reflect our values, and now they know much more about what our judicial branch is doing and they know that change starts with the Governor’s Council.

Yesterday Carol Rose, the Executive Director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, said on GBH that the ACLU will have a “Know Your Governor’s Council” campaign next time, just like the ones they do for District Attorneys and Sheriffs, with an education program and candidate forums. Though this race is truly still close to call, in all the most important ways, we have won.

Take Care,

Mara
