On the Ballot? In the News? Big Endorsement? Just Getting Started.
Hi Everyone,
It's been a great week, starting with joining the pro-choice rally in Concord as part of a nationwide protest to support the right to privacy and the right to choose. More than ever before, folks are realizing how much judges matter, and that our judiciary has the power to either uphold our rights, or to take them away.
As of Tuesday, I am officially on the ballot for Governor's Council! One off the first things I did was reach out to my State Senator Mike Barrett, who has been instrumental in passing criminal justice reform to reduce recidivism while protecting public safety. He immediately said that he would endorse me, and gave me his full support. As Senator Barrett said in his endorsement, "Our judiciary is loaded with former prosecutors. Mara has the values and experience needed to get us closer to balance, which will contribute to the crucial pursuit of justice." Click HERE for the whole story.
Later in the week I spoke with Contrarian Boston's Scott van Voorhis about my race. He raised the issue of the controversy around broadcasting hearings of the Council. I told him, “Hearings of the Governor’s Council must be simulcast, period. The hearings are public, and the public must be able to attend easily and virtually.” For the rest of the topics we covered, click HERE.
This week it will be my honor to speak at meetings of the Acton, Cambridge, and Concord Democrats. I'll join host Dan Winslow on his podcast, Civil Disagreement, to talk about maintaining civility in politics. I'll also be announcing a super exciting fundraiser for June that could really make you screeeeeeam!
We have never had a public defender on the Governor's Council to help us decide who our judges are going to be. We can fix that this year, with your help. Campaign contributions are what make every winning campaign possible. All contributions of all sizes make a huge difference. Your contributions are very greatly appreciated. Please go to MaraDolan.com to donate through ActBlue or Venmo.
See you on the campaign trail soon!
Take care,
Mara
